Terms & Conditions

Rental terms and conditions

Everything you need to know before, during and after your car rental in Mexico.

These terms and conditions supplement your rental agreement. Please read them carefully before booking.

Requirements and documents

The main driver must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license, and present a valid passport.

A Visa, Mastercard or American Express card in the driver's name is required as a security deposit. No CVV code is requested at the counter.

The deposit amount is held (pre-authorization), not charged, unless a claim occurs. Mexican pesos (MXN) cash is accepted; euros are not accepted.

The person paying for the booking must be the driver registered on the contract.

Use and responsibilities

One-way drop-off fees may apply if the vehicle is returned to an agency other than the one originally agreed without prior authorization.

Certain claims remain the customer's responsibility: lost or stolen license plates (250 USD per plate) and missing accessories.

Insurance coverage may be voided in cases of driving under the influence, using unsuitable fuel, driving on unpaved roads, traffic violations, reckless driving, parking in an unauthorized location or unapproved garage, unreported mechanical failure, natural disaster, or unreported vandalism.

In the event of an accident, never move the vehicle: wait for the police to arrive. In case of theft or break-in, filing an official police report is mandatory to activate coverage.

Additional driver

An additional driver is free of charge and subject to the same age and document requirements as the main driver.

Payment methods and guarantee

The rented vehicle is not 100% guaranteed to be an exact model: we guarantee the booked category (air conditioning, seating capacity, transmission), not a specific model.

Fuel

Fuel is not included in the rental rate. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up.

Any difference found upon return will be charged at the current daily rate, plus a service fee.

Late return

A 30-minute grace period is allowed at no charge. Beyond that, an hourly rate applies for up to 3 hours of delay.

Past that point, a full additional day of rental is charged.

Vehicle return and extensions

Due to ongoing roadworks on the airport access bridge, we recommend arriving at least 4 hours before your flight to return the vehicle.

Any booking change must be made at least 24 hours in advance. An extension must be requested before the last day of the contract.

If we have no news from the customer for 3 consecutive days after the expected return date, the vehicle will be reported to the relevant authorities.

Insurance refunds

Refunds for internal insurance are processed within 15 to 90 business days.

Bank fees, PayPal fees, and currency exchange fees are non-refundable.

In the event of a total loss of the vehicle, only the applicable deductible remains payable by the customer.

Security deposits

Economy / Compact category: 500 USD.

Intermediate / Standard category: 750 USD.

Jeep / SUV category: 900 USD.

Mini Van / Van category: 900 USD.

Luxury category: 1,500 USD.

These amounts are indicative and subject to change.

Border crossings

Belize: required documents are provided by our agencies. Mexican insurance is not valid outside Mexican territory; local insurance is required at the border.

Guatemala: a notarized letter is required (approximately 180 USD), with a processing time of 24 to 72 hours. Border crossing is not permitted for vehicles picked up in Mérida.

Availability and cancellations

During high season (November to May, and July to September), we recommend booking at least 30 days in advance.

We advise against picking up a vehicle after 10 PM, or after 8 PM when traveling with children.

During high season, bookings are no longer guaranteed after 2 hours' delay from the scheduled pick-up time.

Cancellations are free of charge. Early returns are not refunded, except in case of a medical emergency. TouraCancun cannot be held responsible for consequences resulting from a customer's loss of time.

Partners

Our vehicles are operated directly or through selected French- and Spanish-speaking partner agencies. French-speaking support remains available 24/7 regardless of the pick-up agency.

Roadside assistance

Roadside assistance is included in all our offers, except in cases of vehicle misuse or driving on unauthorized unpaved roads.
